MERCIFUL JESUS CAME OUT ONTO STREETS OF VILNUS

The Secretary of the Holy See cardinal Pietro Parolin went to Vilnus on 6 May 2016. He was a personal papal legate at the National Congress of Mercifulness in Lithuania, which was the central event of ceremonies in the present Holy Year of Mercifulness in Lithuania. The Lithuanian Congress ended on 8 May with the Holy Mass on the Cathedral Square in Vilnus. In the homily the guest from Vatican entrusted everyone to intercession of the great apostle of Divine Mercifulness – St. Faustine Kowalska and St. John Paul II and he reminded his journey to Lithuania 23 years before. The Eucharist was preceded by a procession with the original picture of Merciful Jesus, which the Vatican Secretary of State presided over along the streets of the Old City – from the building of the parliament on the Independence square to the cathedral. Cardinal Parolin met with the supreme representatives of Lithuanian authorities and presented a report on the diplomatic activity of the Holy See concerning peace. Within his foreign journey to the Baltic countries, the Secretary of State also visited Estonia (9-10 May) and Latvia (11-13 May).
