CRITICALLY ABOUT A CAMPAIGN OF LGBT GROUPS

KAI

It is important to be aware of the fact that actions similar to the current one are an element of a longtime planned campaign aimed at carrying out a social change – said Fr. Prof. Piotr Mazurkiewicz, a political scientist from the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Warsaw, in reference to the campaign of LGBT groups ‘Let’s pass over the sign of peace to one another’. Organizers of this action are the Campaign Against Homophobia, Association for LGBT people Tolerado and a Group of Polish Christians LGBTQ ‘Faith and Rainbow’, focusing groups of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals. The campaign was joined to by clubs of the magazine ‘Tygodnik Powszechny’ and editors of ‘The Sign’, ‘Bonds’ and ‘Contact’ which gave their patronage.

In his interview for the Catholic Information Agency, Priest Mazurkiewicz referred to examples from other countries in which analogical actions were organized. – In France and Great Britain these campaigns abolished the legal difference between a marriage and relations of the same-sex people, fighting for the right of adopting children by them. Frequent sponsors of such initiatives were the European Commission and Geoge Soros’ foundation – he reminded.

The attitude of the Church is clear and is based on distinguishing between a sin and a sinner, that is, in this case between a particular man and an ideology. Every man, who wants to repent, has a right for mercifulness, whereas the ideology, similarly as others, endangers the future of civilization. Also the attitude of pope Francis is very clear in this matter – Fr. Mazurkiewicz emphasized.

‘Let’s pass over the sign of peace to one another’ – this is the name of the first social campaign in Poland pursued by LGBT groups which representatives of Catholics groups joined and who are from the so-called open Catholicism. Organizers assure that the aim of the campaign is not proclaim political or doctrinal postulates but build a dialogue.

Among materials placed on a website of the campaign – www.znakpokoju.com – although it is created by catholic publicists, we will not find any quotations of official documents of the Church about homosexuality, for example, the Catechism of the Catholic Church or a document of Congregation of Faith Teaching from 2003, binding all Catholics, entitled: ‘Notes concerning projects of legislation of relations between homosexual people’.

The Church teaches respect for homosexuals cannot lead to approval of homosexual behavior or legalization of homosexual relations. It is said both by the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the aforementioned document of the congregation.
