Acknowledging single-sex relations is a defeat of humankind

(RV)

Legal acknowledgment of partnership relations between people of the same sex in Ireland means a defeat of not only Christian principles, but also of humankind. In this way the secretary of the state of the Holy See cardinal Pedro Parolin commented results of a referendum on the Green Island from 24 May 2015 in which the Irish voted for legalization of contracting single-sex couples.

The cardinal reminded that the Church has always protected the family based on a relation of two people of different sex, so – as he admitted – the results of the Irish referendum raise ‘great sadness’ in him. He emphasized that – as the archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin said – the Church must be aware of this reality but it must also remember ‘to strengthen its whole engagement and undertake efforts for the sake of evangelizing also our culture’.
