EARNING MONEY AT THE COST OF UKRAINE

The Ukrainian society wants a better life, similar to the one in the West. It needs enormous financial outlays, for which the Ukrainians hope

Under the pressure of European politicians, Ukraine chose the so-called pro-European direction. Its price was an armed conflict with Russia and loss of some territory.

Signing the association contract with the European Union last year sealed the political course of the authorities in Kiev. The association with EU, although it should be a step towards membership in this organization, in the case of Ukraine was purely theoretical. It was not and is not mentioned at all. The Ukrainian society wants a better life, similar to the one in the West. It needs enormous financial outlays, for which the Ukrainians hope.

What is necessary is not only quick reinstating the army fighting in Donbas, but, first of all, credits of milliards are needed for rebuilding and reviving economy which is completely corrupted. The Union makes financial support dependent on necessary reforms carried out by the Union. Recently the chief of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker declared to help Ukraine in the form of granting credit of 1.8mld euro. However, granting this amount of money depends on an agreement of Ukraine with the International Currency Fund.

The mentioned amount of money is not sufficient. Recently a known financier and millionaire George Soros made an appeal for granting Ukraine 50 mld dollars. He defines it as ‘a form of defence of EU against Russia’. He has been in Ukraine since 1990 and would like to make investment and earn on it there. He is interested in energy branch, agricultural industry and a creative small business. Although officially Soros says that he is not going to buy the Ukrainian debts, many analysts argue that his property appeared as a result of currency speculations. One of the most famous ones was an attack on the British pound in the beginning of the 90s of last century, which led to the decrease of the currency value. He earned over a milliard of dollars on it. He was less engaged in Poland, and being called ‘a philanthropist’, by establishing and supporting the Institute of Stefan Batory. It is a long time since there has been a race for economizing EU means assigned for help to Ukraine. As far the Polish authorities and Polish entrepreneurs are pushed aside. And there is really something to fight about.
