RIGHT TO SPYING

MIROSŁAW PIOTROWSKI

In our country the right to set up wiretapping belongs to even 10 services, including Police, Inner Security Agency, Central Office of Bribery and also organs of treasury control

A squealer, spy. Personal Information Sources seem to be departing from granary. They are being replaced by tangible sources of information, mainly phone wiretapping. The European Parliament got concerned about an enormous scale of this phenomenon, while enacting another project of a provision concerning the mass electronic surveillance of EU citizens. It was passed mainly with votes of socialists, liberals, communists, and the Greens’ party. Its text emphasizes that ‘the mass surveillance questions the rule of professional secret of regulated professions, including doctors, journalists and lawyers’.

Moreover, there appeared concern about ‘cases of revealed mass surveillance of telecommunication and internet in the Union by the German agency of intelligence BND’. It was followed by German media, revealing recently, that this German intelligence agency had been spying not only the department of inner affairs in the USA, but also departments of inner affairs of Austria, Denmark, Croatia and Poland, allegedly befriended within the Union. In this context the chancellor Angela Merkel is accused of saying words two years ago, after revealing similar actions of the United States, when she said: ‘Spying among friends – is not proper’.

So, the situation on the field of spying appears in a similar way, like in most areas with which the European Union is dealing: noble declarations are expressed, but in practice – no sentiments. Only the national interest is considered, as well as maximizing advantages. If it is so easily to spy Polish services, it is also easy to get into information possessed by them. And its resource is enormous.

Only last year in Poland were mainly operators of mobile networks spying over 2 million people. The services were interested not only in the contents of talks, billings, but also localization of eavesdropped people. In our country the right to set up wiretapping belongs to even 10 services, including Police, Inner Security Agency, Central Office of Bribery and also organs of treasury control. What is interesting, data of billings are not even destroyed when they are not necessary and what is more, a person under surveillance is not informed about it. it is not difficult to get a number to somebody or military people. According to published information, a dozen thousand phone numbers of soldiers and officers of the Polish army were to be revealed to Russia, and not to say about civilians. We, civilians, are often subconsciously afraid of being spied but now we do not have to look around carefully only we must pay attention to our mobile.
